Timber sheds can be used in rural or urban areas. At Matt’s Homes, our timber sheds have a traditional look and feel that defies time. Timber Garden Sheds have been around for a long time and their natural wooden look blends well into most garden environments. Aesthetically, timber sheds are much more pleasing to the eye than a steel or metal shed. There are various design structures and add-on’s that you can get with your new timber shed, such as windows, guttering, sub floors, steps and storage shelves. Our sheds come standard with environmentally non-arsenic based treated pine, steel framed door, yellow tongue flooring and gable finish cottage green Colorbond® roof with skylight.

A Granny Flat is a name that is used for a Dependant Persons Unit (DPU). A DPU is a building that is built on your property (this is not the main dwelling) for a person that is dependent on the person living in the main dwelling. The granny flat unit can consist of a full kitchen, full bathroom, laundry, living room and one or more bedrooms. They are basically a new home but are classified as a DPU on your building permit, the only issue with this is that once the dependant person finishes using the unit, it then needs to be removed. This will come up when you go to sell your property, however you might be able to reclassify the use of the unit by removing the laundry and cooking facilities, but you will need to check with your council.
Australian owned and operated, Matt’s Homes & Outdoor Designs Granny Flats are fully engineered and certified to exceed all relevant building codes. We provide a complete product and installation warranty. Our experienced staff provide an obligation and hassle free experience throughout all stages of the process including initial design, council approval, installation, and after sales service.
Importantly, Granny Flats are not something you can just organise on your own or with any company. You need to make sure that the company you use is a registered builder or otherwise you may cop a fine. Recently, a media release by the Building Commission revealed that one building practitioner was fined over $20,000 at his suburban property, because he did not have the relevant insurance, or even a building permit or registration. Before you sign any agreements and organise a company to install your granny flat, you must check that they are registered with the Building Practitioners Board as a domestic builder and the relevant insurance is in place. This is particularly relevant for any renovation or building works over $5,000. This example highlights the importance of making sure any work performed around your home is carried out by a registered building practitioner. You can always check this via the Building Commission website.
The good news is that Matt’s Homes and Outdoor Designs are registered builders and this means that you will get quality guaranteed work, with a 6 1/2 year warranty on all works carried out. We also work with a trusted building surveyor regarding all the technical provisions that apply.
Dear Wife and Kids,
as it is nearing Christmas, I imagine you are thinking hard about what to buy me. It can seem so hard with so much on offer, however if you want to give me an unforgettable gift this Christmas, then I would politely suggest buying me a Timber Garden Shed. You may not know, but timber sheds are so popular that even books have been written about them. They provide men like me with an area of solace, a quiet place to retreat and tinker around with my toys and big ideas. Darling, don’t worry, they also provide heaps of storage solutions so you will get something out of this too.
The lowdown is, that Timber garden sheds come in many different designs and sizes and if you really want to impress me, why not get a big one (2.3 x 2.9), definitely add windows, make sure it has a skylight and ideally a verandah that I can sit on after a hard day’s work. Just an idea…
A timber garden shed will look really attractive in our garden too honey, as they offer an aesthetically pleasing and attractive landscaping dimension to any outdoor area. The kids will like peering through the window and occasionally using it as a hideout spot when we play hide and seek. You would have to agree with me, that the traditional look and feel of a timber shed defies time and they are much more pleasing to the eye than a steel or metal shed (which I don’t want you to get my by the way).
You will have lots more time on your hand sweetheart as I, your beloved, happily tinkers in my new home. I may even choose to spend some time on the weekend re-staining or varnishing the wood. SERIOUSLY. If you want to blow the socks off me this Christmas then a timber garden shed is the perfect gift and believe me when I tell you, it will make me love you forever and ever. Even more than I do now. 🙂
Love your dutiful husband and awe inspiring father.
pps. You can order online or phone them today on 1300 62 88 77 to view their large range in store.
Do you notice this trend too? Every year, the sales always happen in the month or so leading up to Xmas, stop a few weeks before and then start up again the day after. Grrr, not good for someone like me, who always leaves things to the last minute. This year I have decided to get my act together and actually shop early, when the sales are on. I will also shop after (just in case you are wondering – and that will be for me). But right now, I am focused on giving to others! That’s why I thought I would let you know that Matt’s Homes and Outdoor Designs has a 10% sale on now and it ends this Sunday 24 November so you better get in quick!
So… you can get a Bali Hut, African Thatch, Kids Cubby House, Wooden Dog Kennel and (or) Timber Shed for a whopping 10% off. Believe me, it all helps at this time of the year!
You have two days. Visit Matt’s Homes to find out more or phone now on 1300 62 88 77.
NB: The sale excludes granny flats, teenage retreats and workshop sheds and is kit form only.
If you are looking for a new home for your furry best friend, then you would most surely want to be buying a timber home that is built to last. Buying a cheap pet home can save you money upfront, but in the long run be more costly. One customer I knew came in to our store exasperated. She was there to buy a wooden dog kennel as her two dogs had ripped to shreds the last ones she bought that were cheaply made! She finally decided to pay that bit extra with the assurance that it was quality built with Australian timber. This is exactly why we love wooden dog kennels.
In the past, you may have noticed that most wooden dog kennels are hard to clean. You have to get on your knees and poke through a tiny door only to find who knows what when you are changing Max’s blanket? It’s hard to get in the crevices and really clean a kennel out… eventually even your dog gets sick of the smell and mess. This is not so with Matt’s Homes kennels, designed with a removable Colorbond® roof for easy access and cleaning (who would have thunk?!). With small, medium and large sizes available, our wooden dog kennels are generously sized with off-set entrance (according to our research, most dog’s like a grand entrance), large roof overhang (good for the wet weather) and a raised moisture resistant floor. Made with quality built Australian jarrah and non-arsenic treated pine, this is timber that is built to last and withhold the elements and restless woofer.
So if you are looking for the curiously strong wooden dog kennels that are built to last, then visit Matt’s Homes and Outdoor Designs. Located Bayswater, you can call us on 1300 62 88 77. Our kennels come flat-packed for easy pick-up and ready to install yourself, or for an additional charge you can opt to purchase a fully assembled kennel. Believe us when we tell you, your dog will wuv you even more.
